I love dancing Argentine Tango so I painted a self portrait “Tango Reunion” as a final project for a painting class. This piece led me to want to paint more same-sex dance couples. I want to capture the creative connection between dancers as well as the rebellion from traditional roles. Realistic painting is incredibly tedious and time consuming for me so the paintings are hard to get to and hard to complete. I painted “Tango Reunion” in half a semester – it still feels incomplete – while “Tanda de las Femmes” was painted in a Sunday. I hope to learn to paint more loose and capture the movement and emotion in the style of the work more with each piece. Now I’m living in Buenos Aires and learning to dance both roles and painting every Sunday. I trust there will be more to add to this series.
