The call to work in the arts started in 4th grade when I designed my first commissioned art piece: a handmade valentine card that 10 of my peers had to have. I took orders. After that it seemed that anytime a drawing was needed for a class project a school fair, a dance poster, the school newspaper – I was asked to do it. I got scholarships in my art classes without asking and invitations to art programs. I was admitted into a nude drawing class before I was the legal age in my county at the time. And I even had a piece stolen from a display. Winning art contests in high school and studying art throughout college in creative arts, painting, photography, music, dance, multimedia and web design there was no limit to my curiosity in the arts. In web certification courses I was naturally the art director, designer, photographer. And now after 20 years running a web design agency in San Francisco I’ve returned to my original passion and I am finally offering illustration as a service.
Magazine covers, feature articles and stories need rich artwork to support the text and embellish custom photography to maximize reader interest.
How does your product's box need to look on the shelf or feel in the hand? Package illustrations can express how customers will experience your brand or product.
Printable products, custom textiles and totally original apparel art is becoming more and more needed as we strive for originality in the market.
Illustration for websites and digital marketing is an increasing trend as stock photography becomes obviously inauthentic and overused.
Book cover art and children's book illustration are still needing strong artwork to grab attention for sales and dazzle their readers.
Illustrating people as an alternative to photography can be a more colorful and artful way to represent headshots for a website, feature article or wall art.
I love your work. It makes me feel expanded and eager to take in the beauty of life.
This is my absolute favorite (so far...)
Simply a mind-blowing piece😍
I love this! I love dance and you captured the flow and emotion so beautifully!
I often start by gathering some source photos that will inspire or inform the work. It can be a photo of the subject that I will reference closely or sometimes multiple photos that get collaged together. These can be gathered online, supplied by the client or taken myself with my Sony a7R III camera.
I grew up working in pencils, watercolor, oils and acrylics. These original art mediums offer the best textures and straightforward process to mark making. Often the most expressive work is traditional. Then it can be photographed for use as backgrounds, brushes and layered in the computer.
Photoshop, Illustrator and Procreate are amazing tools for illustrating in traditional and modern styles. I can use the Wacom tablet or draw directly into my iPad Pro 12.9″ for the most accurate and expressive marks. Format for print or digital output for your branding or publishing project.
